The four goals of Rogerian argument are to find the common ground between two opposite positions, to understand the value of the both sides, to find the position where opposition could emulate something valuable, and to emphasize connection with the opposition and reduce hostility in the situation. These goals are entirely different from the traditional argument. Traditional argument mostly convinces the reader to reject the notion of the opposition and believe what the writer wants to convey.
